With the manual operation, you simply move the base bar to whatever height you want with your hand and where ever you stop your hand is where ever the blind will stop and stay. The mechanism in the head of the blind balances this perfectly, making the blind easy to operate and very light for anyone to use.



The other alternative is for the blind to be hardwired to the mains power of the house. A blind molex cable is provided to your electrician to wire up. This molex cable plugs into the molex cable of the motor in the blind via male/female plug. The motorised blind is then operated by a remote control which is supplied with your blind. The cost of the electrician is not included with the price of your blind. This cost is paid on top of the price of the blind.

You can try roller blinds with block out fabric. These generally let in a fair degree of light and will reduce light getting in the room from outside by between 50 to 70%. Roller blinds with a blockout fabric do not have a headbox or side tracks like a blackout blind does. There is still light coming into the room through the gaps between the fabric and wall from the window for roller blinds. This is true eventhough there may be a "small" gap. Whether this is effective enough for you to sleep in is subjective and will depend on the room's occupant.

Black out blinds from Bunnings are roller blinds. These blinds do not have side channels. There is typically 2 cm of gap between the fabric and wall of the roller blind on the sides and top of the blind. These gaps let light into the room to the extent of brightening the room by up to 50% compared to a pitch black dark room.
